Sediment layers down 20,000 years. The black layer indicates the area was used as a hearth. The orange layer is, as yet, unknown.
This profile shows a deep layer of ash. Its scientific signature is from the Neapolitan Yellow Tuff event when the volcanic caldera exploded some 15-14,000 years ago.
